Of the many tool Syndeia connects, the Simulink interface has attracted some of the greatest interest. Intercax has just released a new video describing this interface for Syndeia 3.1. At seven minutes long, it provides an overview and demonstration of some of the use cases it supports in linking SysML (MagicDraw or IBM Rational Rhapsody) and Simulink (The MathWorks, Inc.).

SysML and Simulink serve complementary roles, SysML focused on conceptual design and architecture modeling and Simulink on detail system simulation.  The challenge is in keeping these models consistent as the system design evolves. The Syndeia Simulink interface not only lets the user transform a model in one tool into a model in the other, it keeps them connected at the model element level so that they can be compared and updated, in either direction, as either or both change.

Remember that there are two fundamentally different use cases with respect to integrating Simulink with SysML. In the first, we want to create generate and update a Simulink model from all or part of a SysML model. This is the use case supported by Syndeia and described in this video (along with the reverse Simulink-to-SysML transform).

A second use case arises when we want to execute an existing Simulink model from a SysML model, for example, a SysML parametric model with a constraint that calls the Simulink model and returns the results to SysML.  This use case is not currently supported by Syndeia, but is part of Intercax’s parametric solver tools: ParaMagic for MagicDraw, Melody for IBM Rational Rhapsody, Intercax ParaSolver for PTC Integrity Modeler, and Solvea for Enterprise Architect.

The capabilities of the Syndeia Simulink interface are expanding continuously. Stateflow models were added in Syndeia 3.1 in May 2017, along with upgraded synchronization features.  Contact Intercax to get the latest word on what Syndeia can do to support your MBSE deployment.
